As far as I can tell now there should not be need for specifying different drivers for ATI boards. The ati module will recognise your hardware and will trigger the loading of r128, radeon, etc, as a submodule. Only if this is wrong (i.e. the following lines do not appear): (II) Loading sub module "r128" (II) LoadModule: "r128" (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/r128_drv.so you should force loading of the submodule directly.
