I am typing this from a Libretto U105 running the Ubuntu Edgy i386 Live CD. I am only just familiarizing myself with this machine, but I already accidentally found that at least once, the Fn+F5 screen cycling key would seem to fix the problem. (Cycle through external and external+LCD and back to LCD only: doesn't matter if you actually have an external screen).
