Exactly how did you determine this, and are you running a FreeBSD version of Debian? (If you aren't sure, you probably are not.) > This does not make sense. Further, the only versions available in the > /debian/main/x/xfree86/ directory are the woody and sarge versions, > which do not meet the dependency cited below: > > libx11-6: Depends: xfree86-common (> 4.3.0) but it is not installed What version of libx11-6 are you trying to install, what version of Debian are you using, and what's in your /etc/apt/sources.list? If you are running Sarge, the xfree86-common package available there is version 4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge2, which certainly does satisfy the versioned dependency "xfree86-common (> 4.3.0)". You can install this version of xfree86-common with apt-get, aptitude, dselect, or synaptic; or download it directly from here and install with "dpkg -i": http://security.debian.org/debian-security/pool/updates/main/x/xfree86/xfree86-common_4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge2_all.deb If you are running Etch or Sid, the libx11-6 there is version 2:1.0.3-2, and it depends on x11-common, not xfree86-common. If you are having problems with packages from backports.org, you should contact the mailing lists there, not submit bug reports to debian.org. best regards, -- Kevin B.
