Indeed - this is #365948 and the other bugs already merged with it.

As suggested in one of them:

  Either copy /etc/X11/Xsession.xfree86 back to /etc/X11/Xsession, or
  use dpkg --force-confmiss to restore it from the .deb.

Merging.
