I also had trouble with xorg 6.9, and have no idea why. It works fine here with xorg 7.0, which is why I uploaded xkeyboard-config 0.8-1. I hope that 7.0 will be uploaded soon, and thus am not willing to support 6.9. Anyway maybe we can try to find a solution for your problem.
