I've discussed this with Fabio Massimo Di Nitto, the Debian package release manager for XFree86, and I'm going to go ahead and add the patch for 4.3.0.dfsg.1-9. If it causes more (or worse) problems than it solves, we'll have to revert it. Thanks for your efforts in trying to find out more information about this.
