Package: xlibs Version: 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8 Followup-For: Bug #234113 I have had, for quite a while now, had the same problems; using KDE keyboard-switching applet, I could never switch from layout 'us' to 'us_intl'. Also manually running setxkbmap never worked; always the error 'Error loading new keyboard description' would be returned. As it had worked before I thought it to be a temporary incompatibility between kxkb and XFree86.
As the problem persisted, I thought I'd look up what bugs were filed on it and found this ole bug on the issue. Thanks to Dennis' last reply to this bug I was able to find a solution/workaround. I have no idea if that is the correct fix for this problem or a horrible workaround I shouldn't be using; but I can now use latin-1 characters easily again.
