Michel, thank you for the hint! I have made a patch (attached) according to your guidelines, put it into debian/patches and recompiled xfree86 4.3.0.dfsg.1-4 And, yes, there is no message about the unresolved symbol in the log anymore. Moreover, a quick test revealed, that mplayer and kaffeine seem to work fine and, of course, X doesn't crash. Thus, I think, the bug is fixed!
