When the manpage is updated, perhaps it can also say why it's a Good Thing that rendering is used, because on the face of it (pun intended) it's only a disadvantage if it disables the old xclock options (I updated my system last night and the xclock's appearance was very different to what it used to be, and no hint on how to fix it again anywhere besides this bug report).
