Codes in 128-159 are normally not considered printable: xterm is a VT102 (or VT220, etc) emulator. This is all documented for many years. DESCRIPTION The xterm program is a terminal emulator for the X Window System. It provides DEC VT102 and Tektronix 4014 compatible terminals for programs that can't use the window system directly. If the underlying operating system supports ter- minal resizing capabilities (for example, the SIGWINCH sig- nal in systems derived from 4.3bsd), xterm will use the facilities to notify programs running in the window whenever it is resized. -- Thomas E.
