Some additional information:
* In fact, the X server isn't completely frozen. The mouse still
works, and I can still select text (with the mouse) from xterm
windows.
* When switching to a virtual terminal (with chvt from another
machine) and switching back to X, I get strange colors and
window furnitures (of fvwm2) are no longer displayed.
