Hi debian-x, So I just got this shiny new Radeon 9200 based card and the new 4.3.0-2 xserver-xfree86 in unstable doesn't fully support it. The analog vga connector works fine, and virtual terminal console output works fine on the DVI connector but when I start X the DVI output goes black.
Here's an interesting part of the server log. (II) Primary Device is: PCI 01:00:0 (--) Assigning device section with no busID to primary device (WW) RADEON: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:1:0:1) found (--) Chipset ATI Radeon 9200 5961 (AGP) found The card is a Gigabyte GV-R92128VH, Radeon 9200 based, 128mb. Running 'lspci -v' using an up to date pci.ids db says, 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV280 [Radeon 9200] (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA]) Subsystem: Giga-byte Technology: Unknown device 4018 Flags: bus master, 66Mhz, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 16 Memory at d0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] I/O ports at 9000 [size=256] Memory at e5000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: [58] AGP version 3.0 Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device 5941 (rev 01) Subsystem: Giga-byte Technology: Unknown device 4019 Flags: bus master, 66Mhz, medium devsel, latency 32 Memory at d8000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [disabled] [size=128M] Memory at e5010000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [disabled] [size=64K] Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2 I noted that in the server log the "ATI Radeon 9200 5961 (AGP)" is listed as a supported chipset but that there is no mention of 5941. As I said above the Linux pci ids folks[1] don't know about it either. A non-linux PCI database[2] does list a little info. I asked Branden on IRC about it and he said there's no mention of that ID in current XFree86 CVS either. I've read the radeon manpage and a bunch of stuff that google found[3] and tried all sorts of config options and haven't been able to get it to work. I'm thinking that getting the server to recognize that 5941 device is the key to making DVI work. Any ideas? Should I file a bug?
