Hi folks, I got a Gainward Pro/660 TV/DVI (NVidia FX5200) and a Dell 2000FP (1600x1200 TFT, 60Hz, 56.0-75.0kHz). Driver is nv.o, XFree86 is the most recent 4.3.
Using xv (e.g. xine) in fullscreen mode I see a lot of short horizontal lines flickering all over the screen. AFAIK these are called "tearing artefacts", but I am not sure about the terminology. Plus there are some noisy dots at the left edge of the screen. This distortion goes away, if I either - use xshm instead of xv - don't use the full screen (using a maxsize window with a small frame around it is sufficient) - use the analog port of the same monitor instead of DVI - use M$ Windows Reducing the screen size to 1280x1024 or using different mode lines (e.g. Modeline "1600x1200" 162.00 1600 1664 1856 2160 1200 1201 1204 1250 Modeline "1600x1200" 154.75 1600 1616 1968 2208 1200 1200 1211 1253 ) did not help. Any idea how to fix this? Is there an "experimental experimental" version I could try? Regards Harri
