Well, the file /etc/X11/rgb.txt was part of the package payload according to dpkg, so the file should exist, unless you removed it yourself. Because files in /etc that are shipped by packages are "conffiles", dpkg will treat them specially, and attempt to preserve your local modifications. This includes file deletion. Please try reinstalling xfree86-common with "dpkg -i --force-confmiss", and please let me know if this resolves the problem. -- G.
