I have been experiencing this same error on my sony vaio u1. It has been happening for at least 2 months. I am running unstable, and currently have xlibs 4.2.1-15.
Like the others reporting this bug i also has a transmeta cpu. I have a "ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M6 LY" video card. Some times i am able to restart X and it works, sometimes logging out and back in seems to fix it, but most of the time i have to reboot. here is the output from x after it crashed and i attempted to restart it: Not loading .note.GNU-stack Not loading .note(EE) RADEON(0): [agp] AGP not available (EE) RADEON(0): [drm] failed to remove DRM signal handler DRIUnlock called when not locked The program 'gkrellm' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib length erro'. (Details: serial 28 error_code 16 request_code 18 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) It doesn't seem to matter what window manager im using.
