When using Konqueror in file management profile, and there is a directory with one directory below it, sometimes when either of the directories is selected wi th the cursor and the cursor is moved away Konqueror tries to automatically dra g the folder. This does not happen with regularity. Sometimes the folder will automatically be dragged and sometimes it will not. I have changed the settings in Control Center for Mouse to use Double-click or Single click and this has no effect on the problem. I have also tried checking and unchecking the "Change cursor over links" setting under Web Brwoser -> Beh avior and this has no effect. I have also tried a variety of settings values f or "Double click interval" and "Drag start time" under Mouse and these also hav e no effect. I have seen the "Quick Copy and Move" in the Control Center under "File Browsin g" and wonder whether this might have something to do with the problem. Howeve r, it is not possible to disable this feature. Another, smaller bug which may be related to this is that when under Mouse "Dou ble click" is chosen and under Web Browser "Change cursor over links" is chosen , the cursor does not change. It will only change if "Single click" is chosen under Mouse. This only happens in Konqueror. The cursor will still change hov ering over taskbar application buttons regardless of "Double click" or "Single click" setting. -- System Information Debian Release: testing/unstable Kernel Version: Linux think 2.4.20-ck7-4 #1 Tue Jun 10 15:27:21 PDT 2003 i686 G NU/Linux Versions of the packages konqueror depends on: hi libstdc++5 3.3.2-0pre1 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii kate 3.1.3-1 KDE Advanced Text Editor ii kcontrol 3.1.3-1 KDE Control Center ii kdelibs4 3.1.4-1 KDE core libraries ii kfind 3.1.3-1 KDE File Find Utility ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.14-1 Library of functions for 2D graphics - runti ii libc6 2.3.2-3 GNU C Library: Shared libraries and Timezone ii libfam0c102 2.6.10-1 client library to control the FAM daemon ii libgcc1 3.3.2-0pre1 GCC support library ii libjpeg62 6b-8 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG runtime li ii libkonq4 3.1.3-1 Core libraries for KDE's file manager ii libpcre3 4.3-3 Philip Hazel's Perl 5 Compatible Regular Exp ii libpng12-0 1.2.5.0-4 PNG library - runtime ii libqt3c102-mt 3.2.1-5 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime version) ii libxrender1 0.8.2-1 X Rendering Extension client library ii xlibs 4.3.0-0pre1v1 X Window System client libraries ii zlib1g 1.1.4-14 compression library - runtime --- Begin /etc/kde3/konqsidebartng.rc (modified conffile) Config file not present or no permissions for access --- End /etc/kde3/konqsidebartng.rc _________________________________________________________________ Message sent on to daniel <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: Bug#214475. Have you actually ever seen this happen, I can't manage to reproduce this even after trying to for quite a while... Do you mean by cursor the mouse cursor or just the selected item cursor, eg alt-tab would change it to the next running app. If you mean mouse cursor it may be that your mouse is faulty and not releasing the mouse click like it should. I tried using alt-tab and moving my mouse cursor both and never could reproduce it. > I have changed the settings in Control Center for Mouse to use > Double-click or Single click and this has no effect on the problem. > I have also tried checking and unchecking the "Change cursor over > links" setting under Web Brwoser -> Behavior and this has no effect. > I have also tried a variety of settings values for "Double click > interval" and "Drag start time" under Mouse and these also have no > effect. As far as I know the only way it should be thinking you are dragging it is if you mouse button is held down, so changing the click setting shouldn't make a difference. > I have seen the "Quick Copy and Move" in the Control Center under > "File Browsing" and wonder whether this might have something to do > with the problem. I'm not certain that "Change cursor over links" is actually supposed to have an effect on konq when not in web mode. However, if you wish you can file an upstream bug about that at bugs.kde.org. An easy way to do this is by clicking Help->Report Bug in the app you wish to report the bug, in this case Konqueror. It seems to me that the directory view in the konq sidebar is loosing the mouse up event, and therefore thinks it saw the start of a drag operation. Extra notes on how to reproduce: - Only happens in the home directory sidebar -> Press F9 to display sidebar -> Click on the home directory or root directory icon - Depends on the speed of the mouse click -> Press and release the mouse button on a directory entry as quickly as you can. I can not reproduce if my press-release cycle is slow. ... so here is a workaround: press and release the mouse button slowly. - I can reproduce on two fairly different systems. These are both running konqueror unstable, but have several differences that do not have any effect: - One has a single display, one uses a dual screen Xinerama setup - One is SMP, the other single processor - One is 750Mhz, the other 1Ghz - One has X 4.3 (experimental), the other X 4.2 (unstable) - Also, the problem persists regardless of whether konq is on the local display or remote via ssh + X forwarding. Hope that helps to reproduce the problem, Chris -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux scooby.cmt 2.4.22-1-686-smp #1 SMP Sat Sep 6 00:06:59 EST 2003 i6 86 Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB Versions of packages konqueror depends on: ii kate 4:3.1.3-1 KDE Advanced Text Editor ii kcontrol 4:3.1.3-1 KDE Control Center ii kdelibs4 4:3.1.4-2 KDE core libraries ii kfind 4:3.1.3-1 KDE File Find Utility ii libart-2.0-2 2.3.16-1 Library of functions for 2D graphi ii libc6 2.3.2-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libfam0c102 2.6.10-4 client library to control the FAM ii libgcc1 1:3.3.2-1 GCC support library ii libjpeg62 6b-9 The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG ii libkonq4 4:3.1.3-1 Core libraries for KDE's file mana ii libpcre3 4.3-3 Philip Hazel's Perl 5 Compatible R ii libpng12-0 1.2.5.0-4 PNG library - runtime ii libqt3c102-mt 3:3.2.1-6 Qt GUI Library (Threaded runtime v ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.2-0pre5 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libxrender1 0.8.3-2 X Rendering Extension client libra ii xlibs 4.2.1-12.1 X Window System client libraries ii zlib1g 1:1.1.4-15 compression library - runtime -- debconf information excluded _________________________________________________________________ Severity set to `normal'. This is the documentation of the three severity levels, which have to be considered: grave - makes the package in question unusable or mostly so, or causes data loss, or introduces a security hole allowing access to the accounts of users who use the package. important - a bug which has a major effect on the usability of a package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone. normal - the default value, applicable to most bugs. The bug can possibly cause data loss, because you always end up moving files around where you don't want them (if you keep using Konquerer at all). This justifies the possibility to rate this bug as grave. The severity should be at least important, because it's not completely impossible to use Konqueror and not everyone is affected. As a previous poster already said, it occurs only in the KonqSideBarDirTree, the sidebar that appears when pressing f9. It occurs when some I/O or other kind of hard work has to happen after switching from one directory to another. Also, you have to try to move your mouse as fast as possible away after clicking, this was also mentionned before. For example, if one directory is shown in a different konqueror view mode ( list view vs. icons ), then after switching from the list view to the icons, a lot of work has to happen ( i guess loading the library from disk ? ). While this work is being done, no X input is being processed. Next, when control returns to the Qt event loop, it apparently gets first a pretty big mouse movement and only then the release event ( I've debugged it with a breakpoint on QApplication::x11ProcessEvent and such ). Apparently, this is a bug in Xlib. On merging two subsequent mouse move events, it apparently does not check whether a mouse release occurred in between them ( in which case it should of course *not* merge them ). I'm setting the submitter to myself ( as I can reproduce and comfortably debug it ) and reassigning to Xlibs. cheers domi _________________________________________________________________ Changed Bug submitter from daniel <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> to Dominique Devriese <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
