Hi all,
No answer after 3 days, let's reword it.
To my knowledge, the following Intel chipsets
(830M/845G/852GM/855GM/865G) are unsupported in Xfree86-4.2.1 hence
unsupported in the current sid packages.
They are supported in Xfree-4.3 (cf. [1] or [2] ).
From [1] "Does XFree86 4.2.0 or 4.2.1 support the 845G?" a backport to
Xfree-4.2.1 seems difficult.
As a sysadmin having hundred of desktops with such chipsets, I'm
interrested to know the intended support of those for sarge (for now we
are using an unsupported backport of XFree86-4.3.0 to woody to get those
desktop running, thanks to V. Golam for taking care of that).
In my previous mail, my babbling about Xfree86-4.3.0 soon in sid came
from the sheer number of svn commit in this branch and the comment about
"time constraints.." on [3].
Out of curiosity, I would appreciate if someone could summup the current
state of xfree86_4.3.0-0pre1v5 packages and what does prevent them to
enter sid (appart from left over from the compromision).
A bit more on the Intel chipsets.
AFAK all professionnal desktops from Dell (optiplex series) ship with
those chipsets (i845G since 09/2002, i865G since 09/2003).
Surfing a bit, that's what I got :
The current HP/Compaq business desktops are also shipped with one of
these chipsets [4].
IBM desktops seems to have an "Intel Extreme Graphics 2" card. From [5]
we are back to known univers.
Same chipsets at gateway [6].
Thanks for your time,
Fab
