Package: xserver-xfree86 Version: 4.2.1-14 Severity: normal Followup-For: Bug #179647
I'm experiencing this bug, too. It started when I upgraded my kernel from 2.4.18 to 2.4.20 and didn't stop when upgrading to 2.4.21-rc8 or 2.4.23-pre7(which I'm currently running). I reproduced the bug with both r128 and ati drivers. Using the fbdev-driver circumvents the bug, as it seems (used it for 3 days, no hang). The bug most often occurred when using kmail. During the hang the xserver freezes completely(no mouse, no NumLock), with the /usr/X11R6/bin/X process using 90%+ cpu. If there is any additional info I shall provide, just ask. Logging in via ssh I gathered following information(using xserver- xfree86-dbg): strace: ======= # strace -p6850 Process 6850 attached - interrupt to quit ioctl(5, 0x6444, 0) = -1 EBUSY (Device or resource busy) --- SIGALRM (Alarm clock) @ 0 (0) --- sigreturn() = ?
