This was something different; since I didn't get the build log, I asked bdale to upload the package for me, and neglected to mention that it was headed for stable-security rather than stable. It was rejected because there was no source package for it in proposed-updates (thankfully). This wasn't due to a missing .orig.tar.gz; this was a binary-only upload for a package where there was no source package (yet). It's now on stable-security and everything is fine. -- - mdz
