/etc/X11/XftConfig is a conffile. Apparently dpkg is convinced you wanted that file deleted and is trying to respect your wishes. Try this: # apt-get -udy --reinstall install xlibs # dpkg -i --force-confmiss /var/cache/apt/archives/xlibs_*.deb Anyway, this is not an XFree86 bug. -- G.
