Hi!

On ThinkPad T14 AMD Gen 5 with AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 8840U
w/ Radeon 780M Graphics. KDE Plasma 6.3 desktop on Qt 6.7.2 with X11.

Did not see a failure to initialize VAAPI with previous 24.x mesa. However
with current mesa 25.0.0-1 VLC crashes start with auto detection of video
output:

% LANG=C vlc *.webm
VLC media player 3.0.21 Vetinari (revision 3.0.21-0-gdd8bfdbabe8)
[000055d378f41400] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface.
Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
libva info: VA-API version 1.22.0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/
radeonsi_drv_video.so
libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_1_22
libva info: va_openDriver() returns 0
zsh: segmentation fault LANG=C vlc *.webm

Kernel log has:

[ 1442.846956] av:vp9:df0[13960]: segfault at 7fd15192a266 ip
00007fd71db0ad30 sp 00007fd6b4a5a2a0 error 4 in
libgallium-25.0.0-1.so[70ad30,7fd71d4e1000+1735000] likely on CPU 10 (core
5, socket 0)

Also happens with OpenGL as video output.

VLC works just fine with OpenGL 2 for integrated systems video output.
It also works okayish with XCB as video output.

As VLC except for some binary transition stayed the same version since
27th of January and it worked perfectly fine with VAAPI output with mesa
24.x my current bet is that it has to do with the mesa 25.0.0-1 update.

I can file a bug with VLC in case that is not the case. Please advice.

For now I thought I just answer to this issue.

I can also file a new bug for mesa. Please advice on the package to use
for that.

Best,
