On my machine the link from /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkbcomp which was a link to /etc/X11/xkb/xkbcomp itself was "funny" after I changed the link to plain /usr/X11R6/bin/xkbcomp I have again my @ key which formerly didn't function.
