a) is "compaq" really spelled "compac" in Germany? b) I would suggest checking your kernel configuration to ensure 'mtrr' is turned on -- mainly since it dies here. If it is on, try turning it off, recompiling, and try X again. (If it works with mtrr turned off but not turned on, then there is a good chance it will run slowly compared to other systems with a working mtrr system.) BTW -- your XFree86.0.log said your kernel was 2.2.something-presomething.
