Since debianutils has dropped the deprecated `tempfile` in 5.0-1 /etc/X11/Xsession fails around the WRITE_TEST and this breaks graphical login completely. Commenting this section allowed me to log in. There is another call line 85 that needs to be changed too.

What if you just do s/tempfile/mktemp?
