running glxinfo on a vanilla phase2v12 xserver-xfree86 reports:

The "fix":
Replacing "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libdri.a" with the same
file from v5 fixes the problem.
I know this is not the right fix, but at least narrows bug finding to
that certain file and, non the less, it brings DRI back to a working
state for users.
