Actually, the above-described problem seems to have more to do with the
non-device-specific portions of the X server.  Subsequent maintenance to
jessie has fixed this problem.  I am back to disabling the ExaNoComposite
option again.  I still have some minor rendering problems, particularly
after the screen saver has kicked in, but the server doesn't crash anymore.
