Ok. I found what was the problem. newer bios somehow breaks 3d support on linux. motherboard: asus a8v deluxe bios (working): 1008 (that or 1006 was original) bios (failure): 1011.5 (didn't try official 1011 or 1009) Bug should be closed. Highly doubt there would be another case (black or transparent window)... but who knows, someone who might update bios to latest version, run a matrox card, and wants opengl support from a lowly card. Next time I should not trust a newer-than-stock bios. -David.
