Hello again, On January 12, 2013, after an update (that upgraded dozens of kde libraries) and a reboot, I was quickly paging through a pdf document with evince and the system locked up again. After a hard power-off (holding the power button down for 5-10 seconds - the only way to regain access) the crash handler reported it had a backtrace, included below.
An additional data point: xfig also has the illegible font problem. See previous updates of this bug report re: gbuffy, xtide. Further explanation on the "moving windows causes a lockup" previously reported: Moving some windows doesn't cause a lock up, but moving windows where any part goes off the edge of the screen seems to. Xfig popping up an explanation window that was partially off-screen (in response to mouse hover) did cause a lock-up.
