As discussed on IRC, you need to make sure that the aty128fb driver is active in the kernel, not OFfb. You should be able to achieve that by either building aty128fb into the kernel or disabling OFfb on the kernel command line and making sure the aty128fb module is loaded, e.g. by adding it to the list of modules to be loaded in the initrd or in /etc/modules.
