Package: xorg Version: all Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainer,
In the new versions of xorg, an xorg.conf is not always created, depending on what video driver you're using. It would be nice if an informational xorg.conf was created explaining the following: xorg can use files ending in the suffix .conf in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d for additional configuration. It is preferred to use an <empty xorg.conf> and create files (e.g. 20-nvidia.conf, 20-radeon.conf, 20-wacom.conf) there in order to configure a single device. You might have to create the directory yourself (mkdir /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d). See also "man 5 xorg.conf". That way, when you have folks that are expecting their x config to be in xorg.conf, they will have something pointing them to the new structure of the xorg.conf.d directory structure. Thanks for your time. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.0.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages xserver-xorg depends on: ii libc6 2.13-21 ii x11-xkb-utils 7.6+4 ii xkb-data 2.1-2 ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.1.901-2 ii xserver-xorg-input-all 1:7.6+9 ii xserver-xorg-input-evdev [xorg-driver-in 1:2.6.0-2+b2 ii xserver-xorg-input-synaptics [xorg-drive 1.4.1-1+b1 ii xserver-xorg-input-wacom [xorg-driver-in 0.10.10+20110203-1+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-all 1:7.6+9 ii xserver-xorg-video-apm [xorg-driver-vide 1:1.2.3-2+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-ark [xorg-driver-vide 1:0.7.3-2+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-ati [xorg-driver-vide 1:6.14.2-2 ii xserver-xorg-video-chips [xorg-driver-vi 1:1.2.4-1+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-cirrus [xorg-driver-v 1:1.3.2-4+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-fbdev [xorg-driver-vi 1:0.4.2-4+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-i128 [xorg-driver-vid 1:1.3.4-2+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-intel [xorg-driver-vi 2:2.16.0-1 ii xserver-xorg-video-mach64 [xorg-driver-v 6.9.0-1+b1 ii xserver-xorg-video-mga [xorg-driver-vide 1:1.4.13.dfsg-3+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-neomagic [xorg-driver 1:1.2.5-2+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-nouveau [xorg-driver- 1:0.0.16+git20110411+8378443-1+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-openchrome [xorg-driv 1:0.2.904+svn920-1+b1 ii xserver-xorg-video-r128 [xorg-driver-vid 6.8.1-5+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-radeon [xorg-driver-v 1:6.14.2-2 ii xserver-xorg-video-rendition [xorg-drive 1:4.2.4-2+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-s3 [xorg-driver-video 1:0.6.3-4+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-s3virge [xorg-driver- 1:1.10.4-4+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-savage [xorg-driver-v 1:2.3.2-3+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-siliconmotion [xorg-d 1:1.7.5-1+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-sis [xorg-driver-vide 1:0.10.3-3+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-sisusb [xorg-driver-v 1:0.9.4-2+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-tdfx [xorg-driver-vid 1:1.4.3-4+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-trident [xorg-driver- 1:1.3.4-2+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-tseng [xorg-driver-vi 1:1.2.4-2+b2 ii xserver-xorg-video-vesa [xorg-driver-vid 1:2.3.0-7+b1 ii xserver-xorg-video-vmware [xorg-driver-v 1:11.0.3-3 ii xserver-xorg-video-voodoo [xorg-driver-v 1:1.2.4-2+b2 Versions of packages xserver-xorg recommends: ii libgl1-mesa-dri 7.11-6 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
