I'll include it with this message, but first something more important: I can't reproduce this bug anymore. It was very reliable a few months ago, but now it doesn't happen. I still see garbage drawn on the screen but the X server doesn't crash. I don't know what changed. xserver-xorg and xli haven't been upgraded. I have a newer kernel, which seems pretty far removed from where the problem was. I guess the non-crashing X server will make it easier to trace what crazy requests xli is sending. Here's the config file. It's crufty since it's been through a few upgrades and I've edited it whenever it stopped working instead of creating a fresh one. reportbug didn't get it the first time because it wasn't world-readable for some reason. # /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file) # # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using # values from the debconf database. # # Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page. # (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.) # # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only* # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg # package. # # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated # again, run the following command: # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg Section "Files" FontPath "unix/:7100" # local font server # if the local font server has problems, we can fall back on these FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi" # path to defoma fonts FontPath "/var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType" EndSection Section "Module" Load "GLcore" Load "bitmap" Load "dbe" Load "ddc" Disable "dri" Disable "dri2" Load "extmod" Load "freetype" Disable "glx" Disable "int10" Load "record" Load "speedo" Load "type1" Load "vbe" SubSection "extmod" Option "omit XFree86-DGA" EndSubSection EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Generic Keyboard" #Driver "keyboard" #Driver "kbd" Driver "evdev" Option "Device" "/dev/input/event0" Option "CoreKeyboard" Option "XkbRules" "xorg" #Option "XkbModel" "macintosh" Option "XkbModel" "hhk" Option "XkbLayout" "us" Option "XkbOptions" "terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp" Option "AutoRepeat" "250 30" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Configured Mouse" Driver "mouse" Option "CorePointer" #Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS0" #Option "Protocol" "MouseSystems" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Protocol" "PS/2" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "false" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Generic Video Card" Driver "radeon" Option "UseFBDev" "false" Option "EnablePageFlip" "true" Option "ForceMinDotClock" "15749k" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Generic Monitor" HorizSync 28-50 VertRefresh 43-86 Option "DPMS" ModeLine "320x200" 15.75 320 344 376 412 200 208 210 222 -hsync +vsync doublescan ModeLine "640x480" 36.00 640 672 728 832 480 481 484 509 -hsync -vsync ModeLine "800x600" 49.50 800 848 928 1056 600 605 608 633 +hsync +vsync EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Default Screen" Device "Generic Video Card" Monitor "Generic Monitor" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 1 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 4 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 8 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 15 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 16 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection EndSection Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Default Layout" Screen "Default Screen" InputDevice "Generic Keyboard" InputDevice "Configured Mouse" EndSection -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
