Depending on,
which of the current changes made to Gnome in Debian experimental,
get released to Debian unstable in the next few weeks,
>gnome-terminal has always been a dependency of gnome-core.
the request to hide xterm icons from the gnome-desktop maybe a moot point.
Please take a look at the gnome-menu rewrite ...
and see if the xterm icons still adversely affect the Gnome-Desktop experience.
