I found a way to reproduce this for sure:
You need some text spaning multiple lines that has partially scrolled
out of the visible area. Then start some application that has a
window, anything curses based should do and select the first word/line.
E.g.:
echo $(seq 1000); xemacs -nw
echo $(seq 1000); less some-file
echo $(seq 1000); zile
echo $(seq 1000); irssi
echo $(seq 1000); screen
...
The tripple click to select the top line will also select the partial
line that was scrolled out of the visible window. Scroling up in the
scrollback buffer will show the text it selects.
