Yes, as I mentioned I'm using the latest generic kernel which does include the radeon module. Normally I use a custom built kernel which also has radeon+KMS, but I fell back to the generic in case I had screwed up some build options. As for support of the chipset... well the radeon kernel module doesn't complain about anything. It is an R580 which is well within the series supported by the radeon team.
