I have now tried the 2.6.36-rc6 kernel and xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.13.0-1, both from experimental. My display works now nicely, with kms, both in text mode and with X. Great! There are a few minor glitches: - sometimes I cannot switch back from text mode to X (screen stays black) - restarting kdm made my mouse pointer disappear. But overall the system appears well usable, if you stay away from the nerdy stuff like text mode.
