Hi Anthony, could you please try latest upstream release? It's available at http://autobuild.ikibiki.org/ and built against squeeze/sid. It had some change related to relaxing checks when reopening devices, I'm not sure it's going to help, but having a look would be nice. Mraw, KiBi.
