So tapping is disabled. This is how it looks on my laptop: Synaptics Tap Action (287): 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 3, 2 "man 4 synaptics" should tell you how to configure tapping in xorg.conf (in short you should set the TabButton* options) but gpointing-device-settings saying that tapping is enabled sounds like a bug there.
