My reasons are: * The packaging was sloppily implemented and recently broken by the implementer (as can be seen in 4.3.0-0pre1v2). The person responsible for it therefore appears to no longer have time to maintain it properly. This factor combines with the following. * There is no upstream support for installing the kernel module sources onto the system (i.e., "make install" completely ignores these files). We have to kludge our own solution, which is prone to errors (see above). * The DRI modules in recent versions of the Linux 2.4 kernel are at least as up to date as the sources in XFree86 4.3.0 (or so I am told). * XFree86 upstream uses an external source for the Linux kernel DRI modules anyway, so really all you're getting from this package is a snapshot, which given the slow pace of XFree86 releases combined with the slow pace of Debian packaging of those releases, means the kernel module sources provided will be quite out of date, more often than not. For all of the above reasons, I do not think the best course of action is to provide a DRI kernel modules source-code package from the xfree86 Debian source package. --=20 G.
