As of xfree86 4.2.1-10, you won't have to anymore. And the solution isn't "simple", not if we want it to work with a variety of font configurations. Also, Juliusz Chroboczek, upstream X font guru, recommends *NOT* "moving path "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi" to the top".
