I was using the closed-source NVidia driver and when I switch back to the XFree86 nv driver I got bitten by the same problem reported in #147557. I spent like one hour trying to figure out what was the reason for this weird double cursor.
Thanks God I saw this bug report and read the workaround about rebooting the machine - I never thought that something so drastic was necessary to get back my hardware cursor. Oh well, that's my reward for using that stupid NVidia driver. Anyway, thanks for the workaround Overfiend.
