Hi, I was too hasty in saying the bug is gone. I just decided to play with KDE a bit (I had been using Gnome so far), and now the bug is back.
Apparently, some X background manipulation programs, such as the one KDE uses to set the background picture, or Esetroot, cause corruption on the framebuffer console. It looks almost like they overwrite a font cache or something... Would it help if I took pictures of the corrupted framebuffer with a screen grabber?
