It did _not_ make it into 4.2.0. Appearently GeForce4 came out after 4.2.0 was released. "XFree86 -configure" worked on a CVS checkout from yesterday, ie. it created a sensible-looking /root/XF86Config.new file. The answer is: yes you can get XFree86 working without a kernel with these drivers, but you cannot get XFree86 with OpenGL hardware accelleration working on a GeForce4 card without these drivers.
