First thing: I sometimes search for packages on
https://www.debian.org/distrib/packages .

It's very useful to see which Debian versions have which versions
of the packages. But sometimes a package is not yet in Debian
and in that case it would be useful to have a link on that page
to the Prospective Packages page so I can see whether the package
might be added soon.

Another thing: Finding out how to download Debian is a mess!
There are so many different pages about different ways of
downloading Debian in different formats that I feel lost every
time I try. I know there is some complexity to it because there
are a few variables, like:

- Debian Version
- CPU Architecture
- Method (HTTP, BitTorrent, Jigdo)
- Format (Netinst, Live Image, CD, DVD, Blu-ray)

But I think that maybe it could be possible to let the user
select these variables in a way that is easier to navigate.

Currently, this is my experience when trying to download the
stable Blu-ray disc 1:

I click "Other downloads" on the home page. This takes me to a
page that lets me make an incomplete choice of Format (Netinst or
CD/DVD). It also links to the Testing version, but not in a way
that makes it obvious that this is where you select Version.

If I click "complete installation image", I get to choose Method,
but there is also a Format option in the middle (to download Live
Image). Above that is a menu that contains both Format options
and Methods, duplicating the ones below. By the way, how am I
supposed to know which Methods are available for my choice at
this point? There is also the "installation information" link
that takes me to another page that lets me select both Format and
Method at the same time. What is this page for when we already
have the other ones?

So, I think that what the user wants is one obvious way to select
these variables, not unstructured pages linking to each other
like spaghetti.  There is also a priority with these variables;
I think the user knows which Version and Architecture they want
from the start, but they can be a bit flexible with the Method
and Format depending on what options are available.

We could either just have a form where the user can select all
the variables at once, or maybe a first page that contains one
header for each version (Stable, Testing, Unstable and Oldstable
would be nice too). Under each Version header there could be a
two-dimensional table with Formats horizontally and Architectures
vertically. Each table cell could contain a link to a page where
all the different download Methods for that option are listed
together with information about how to use BitTorrent and Jigdo
and so on.

That's what I came up with after a few minutes of thinking.
Maybe you can do a better job than me.

A third thing: I think it's a bit hard to find information about
the releases. There is no link on the home page. It seems like
I have to first click "More..." under "The Operating System" and
then it's not obvious how to continue. It seems like I have to
go to "Developers' Corner" and then "Releases". I don't think
that information about what versions are available is only
interesting to developers.
