Hi All, I'm Kathara Sasikumar, a Debian intern in the Outreachy program, currently working on the Debian Wiki Modernization Project under the mentorship of Lucas Kanashiro.
A bit about me: I graduated from NSS College of Engineering with a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering. My enthusiasm for contributing to the Debian project has brought me to this exciting opportunity, and I am eager to learn from the experiences of this vibrant community. The Debian Wiki Modernization Project aims to experiment with updating our Debian Wiki to the latest version of the MoinMoin project. This update introduces new features that could significantly improve the Wiki's functionality and user experience. It's crucial to emphasize that this project is just an experiment, and we are not initiating the migration at this point. We are playing around with MoinMoin 2 to explore its possibilities. Our goal is to gather insights and feedback from the Debian community before making any decisions. We want to provide detailed information to ensure a well-informed decision-making process when the actual migration occurs. As part of our findings from the salsa thread discussion "The future of wiki.debian.org with MoinMoin 1.9.x," we considered alternatives such as exploring MediaWiki. However, for this experiment, we've chosen to concentrate on MoinMoin 2. The outcome may lead to various issues that could contribute to the decision-making process. It's an experiment, and if challenges arise with MoinMoin 2, it might prompt people to explore other alternatives with valid considerations. In the decision-making process, it's essential to clarify that we are not making any decisions unilaterally; the entire community will decide. Our role is to provide in-depth insights.
