Hi all, [Please send replies to debian-derivatives and debian-www]
The website currently has a list of distributions derived from Debian[1] that is a bit outdated, contains some inactive distributions and is missing some distributions. I have been working on the derivatives census[2] for the purpose of integrating[3] information about derivatives into our infrastructure. Recently we got a query[4] about how to add a distribution to [1] and I remembered that I had intended to start a discussion about this. I would like to suggest the following: Move the page to a more prominent location, perhaps /derivatives? The content of the page should be gathered from the census and include: * Distribution names/logos * Link to the derivatives census page for more info * Distribution descriptions. It might be best to split these out into sub-pages since there are a lot of derivatives; 42 in the census and more that are not listed there. Apply some criteria before a derivative can be listed, my suggestions: * listed in the census * still actively developed; responded to the annual ping at minimum * distributes source for all the FOSS software it distributes; I plan to write some code to check for that the source and binary package lists from the apt repositories match. * distribution description has been reviewed by debian-l10n-english. Also it would be best if the descriptions didn't read like adverts. Inactive distributions that are/were considered historically important could be moved to a separate page, others simply removed. Any thoughts? 1. http://www.debian.org/misc/children-distros 2. http://wiki.debian.org/Derivatives/Census 3. http://wiki.debian.org/Derivatives/Integration -- bye, pabs http://wiki.debian.org/PaulWise
