I guess I see the rationale for that. I do, however, think that the download link on the front page seems fairly easy to miss if you don't know to look for it, in favor of the "Getting Debian" link in the page text. The download link seems to disappear into the header, perhaps because when you've seen a logo/project banners on many sites you tend to naturally look past them to find content, and don't expect to find content *in* them. :) In any case, it does seem odd to have the "Getting Debian" page not provide the same link as the front page.
