The thing is that this is tiresome manual work that few people apart from me want to do. IMHO, Debian users will leave money with the vendors, so I should try to ensure that the offers are not bogus/malicious, that people really get an official image, etc. CD/DVD vendors often put insufficient info on their pages. Some spammy people just put up some random Debian-related page and hope to get a high-pagerank link from the debian.org website. Others create multiple shops under different URLs and try to gain an unfair advantage by being listed multiple times. [Slightly related: Some more automation would be possible to ensure that we only list up-to-date vendors - weeding out old entries also takes quite some time. I CCed him. It is kind of long for an online shop owner, I feel bad about this... I recently started a new job and moved to another country, which didn't exactly help. There should be more active people behind the cdvendors@ alias. IIRC we had those mails go to debian-cd once upon a time, but people didn't like that for some reason, probably because of the noise it created on the list. As far as I'm concerned, it would be OK to move to a public list.
