after reading the other bug report that you merged mine with, I came to the conclusion at which I have arrived personally years ago, that content negotiation/MultiViews is just too brittle for many cases, and that not handling it correctly in this case is exactly what causes the trouble we're experiencing. As part of my reasoning, please consider that it was easy to break, but apparently it is far from easy to correct this problem, for now the fifth day running. My second argument was that by not using it, one would open up the "road" to move away from Apache, should there be a desire to do so, one day, because MultiViews is highly Apache specific.
