Hello,

Looking at the possible mail choices I couldn't figure out which was most
appropriate. I'm sorry if this is not the right place to send my
suggestion.

First, congrats for a great distro! I really enjoy Debian and believe it is
THE best distro!

But in order to make it even better, I would like to offer a suggestion. To
make the 'package' search a little bit better because it really, really is
awful right now.

For example, I wanted to build the kernel for the first time but couldn't
get it to compile. Searching the net, I saw many many pages indicated to
install the kernel headers and some even went as far as to suggest typing
'rpm -i kernel-headers.rpm'. Using your package search I tried searching
for 'kernel headers', 'kernel-headers' and 'kernel' to no avail.

It was on another site which I found that I should install
'build-essentials' with apt-get. Doing so I realized that it was going to
automatically install 'linux-kernel-headers'. So why didn't your search
engine give me this option in the first place? Why is it so limited? This
is very frustrating and could have saved me a good hour worth of time. Not
to mention all the other times that I didn't find my packages.

It is in frustrating situations like this that my friends and peers defect
to other distros (not that they are better). And usually, I have to follow
suite!

Thanks in advance,

Christian Jean
