Because a lot of people doesn't know about that. :-( The <br /> doesn't change the output because of wml, but the substitutions of "quotes" by <q> has impact on how data will appear. Probably I won't have much time before DebConf, but hopefully during DebCamp (DebConf and after it) we could write some recommendations about this and as part of our common goal to have a new web face for the Project. Another valid point, is that having a common code base (even if WML will change it) is important for smart changes and massive patches/fixes.
